Is it uncommon for people to know more than one language?

I want to learn another language (possibly German and/or Spanish), but my school doesn’t offer either - only stupid French…

It is not at all uncommon for people to know more than one language. In fact, it is uncommon. Many countries have more than one official language, as well as dialects for villages.
I can see why you would think it’s uncommon, though. And in the US, most people can only speak English.
no, in most smaller countries your learn more than one language. In the Netherlands, you learn Dutch, English, German and French.
Take the French, it will help you learn Spanish and Italian later on, or buy a course from the shops, libraries stock them too.
