learning foreign language in the other foreign language ?
xiangshei asked:
Hi, I am Korean who go to school in Canada, who can speak Korean, English, Chinese
I have some problem these days..
I learned Chinese vocabularies in Korean,
so, when I want to speak “sky” in Chinese, I translate Korean word to Chinese(天;sky) which means, if i forget Korean word of ’sky’ , I can’t say sky in Chinese ( the reason that I can’t usually remember the ’sky’ word in Korean is I have been in Canada for a long time, i don’t say “sky” in Korean.. I say like ‘oh that’s sky’ in English..)
so I am trying to learn Chinese again using English(or in English?)
My English is second language, not first…
so.. do you think it’s possible learning Chinese in another foreign language?
(my first language is Korean)

you should learn chinese in chinese. just pretend you don’t know any other language. that’s how i learned english. in a year, i got in the honors program.
oh wow! I have a hard enough time speaking English sometimes! I think the way you are learning the language is the same way that everyone else does. When I speak Spanish, I translate it to and from English.
English and Chinese are two of the hardest languages to learn as a non-native speaker. I think you should keep with the Korean to Chinese translations.
Yes, you can learn Chinese in a non-Chinese speaking country such as Canada.
You’re not fluent in English or Chinese, that’s why you’re having these problems. Just live there a few more years and you’ll understand better.
By the way, don’t try to translate unless you want to become an intepreter/translator. I speak many languages but I can’t translate very well. Ever heard of “Lost in Translation”? Find that movie and watch it. lol
Kamsa-hamnida.
cool im korean too and i speak semi chinese, and i learned chinese thru speaking english. The grammer is very easy for chinese. I learned japanese thru speaking korean becasue the grammer is same.
yah just use english to learn chinese since it’s easier for you to understand i guess…..
english is definetly one of the most easy languages to learn no questions asked i learned it in a year and i was in esl for another pointless year.
idk anything about chinese or korean, but when i learned english it kinda became my thinking language, but im trying to get rid of that now.
