Does the United States have any plan to recognise officially any Native American languages?
Scott E asked:
Canada and most other states in the Americas recognise them, so why can’t the US? also if official support came about would the government fund schooling in such languages?

As an official language? No. Frankly, we don’t have an official language though I think it should be English. We can recognize them as Native languages, but I don’t think more is needed. I would oppose government spending on the forced teaching of these languages in schools since they are not widely spoken and very few kids would choose to take them. It would be a waste of money and we already waste enough of it.
The sad fact is that Native American languages are a minority even among minority languages, and those who speak them don’t have the necessary governmental power to have them recognized as official languages.
If they happened to get official support, I doubt schools would be made. People are already making a huge fuss about Spanish-only schools in the southwest, because they don’t want it to “take over” English, even though English isn’t the official language of the US.
We haven’t actually declared any official language of the country, yet. More info:
If you recall history, we recognized the Navajo Language as an asset during World War II. Why does a piece of paper “Officially ” recognizing a language really matter? I do not support government funding of any language other than English.
they should be
the Navajo language was used in many wars
but there are SO many dialects for each tribe of Native Americans, it would take a long time to translate each one, each tribe has a different dialect- like Cherokee it’s different in one area than another- that goes for all Native American languages
the USA should though
